Here's my favorite video in the Pleo World webisode series titled "Behind The Scenes : The Making Of Pleo". It's called "Pleo On The Street" and it shows a veritable cuddly army of Pleos taking over an unsuspecting town in Idaho. People are incapable of keeping their hands off of Pleo and Pleo is more than happy to entertain. See for yourself:

A couple of truly hilarious photos have surfaced from last weekend's Maker Faire, where thousands of do-it-yourself hackers and makers gathered to show off their contraptions. The photos in this case are for Pleo, our favorite blue eyed baby dinosaur. Apparently one of the Ugobe staff wanted to see if a Pleo with fur would still function! According to Julie Crabill of ShiftComm, Ugobe's elite public relations firm, it did! I'm still avidly trying to get a hold of some footage of the Pleo as Lambchop being petted while swinging his furry white tail around! For your amusement here are the two photos, courtesy of Steven Rainwater the founder of the venerable Robots.net web site:

With permission from Ugobe, I have uploaded the first video in their webisode series titled "Behind The Scenes : The Making Of Pleo" to YouTube. This 3 minute video shows Caleb Chung, Pleo inventor and Ugobe cofounder and Ugobe CEO Bob Christopher. In this video they talk about Ugobe's Three Law's Of Robotics. All Ugobe life forms must:

• Feel and convey emotion
• Be aware of themselves and their environment
• Learn and develop over time

The video is chock full of wonderful footage of Pleo doing the usual things you would expect a pet to do like stealing someone's pen and not letting go of it, being petted by the doting Ugobe staff, and generally hamming it up for the camera while batting his big blue eyes. See for yourself:

Ugobe has released the latest segment in their web video series called "Behind The Scenes - The Making of Pleo". This video is pure street scenes with a minute and a half of people petting and cooing at Pleo as the blue eyed baby dinosaur wows them with his cuteness and cuddliness. The owner of the PleoBot blog had the good fortune to be at this year's Robogames 2007 competition. Robogames is a contest where amateur hobby robotics enthusiasts get together and enter their robots into competitions. These competitions test how well their robotic designs perform in ribbon climbing contests, sumo matches, robot soccer, and much more. There are events for Vex Robotics users, Lego Mindstorms fans, and many other robot platforms. The creator of Robogames, David Calkins, has been snapped up by Ugobe as an employee. If you live in Texas or will happen to be there this October 20 and 21, you can meet Pleo! If you can make it by the 20, then you can also meet Pleo's inventor and Ugobe co-founder, Caleb Chung. According to Pleo World, you'll be able to:

• Play with a Pleo prototype
• Explore how to modify, personalize, and customize Pleo
• Inspect some Pleo components you may have seen featured in the webisodes
  

Those of you who can't visit the show and see the Pleo booth, can still participate by watching a streaming live chat that will be set up from the show. Maker Faire is the awesome show put on by leading inventor/do-it-yourself magazine and online web site, Make Magazine. Here are some of the wonderful events currently planned for this years fair (from their web site):

Maker Faire: two-day, family-friendly event that celebrates arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset, including Swap-O-Rama-Rama, the King of Fling Catapult Competition, and Edible Austin's DIY Food.

YouTube user ellysdoghouse captured an excellent quality video of Pleo and Pleo's very first steps at a recent Sacramento Area Aibo Gathering meeting (SAAG 2007 ). SAAG is a user group comprised of loyal fans of the Sony AIBO. The AIBO was one of the most sophisticated dog robots to grace the consumer robot scene. The members of the SAAG user's group are advanced robot consumers that can appreciate a capable, sensor rich and programmable robot like Pleo.

EllysDogHouse, a truly fortunate YouTube videographer, captures our Pleo making his very first baby steps ever, as a newborn Pleo, which meant he was also very timid and nervous. During the video you can hear the Ugobe spokesman warn the SAAG members not to cuddle him too much or they might spoil Pleo. What is heartwarming is hearing the deep sighs from the SAAG members while Pleo takes his first few steps. Next to Pleo is Dogma, Elly's custom painted, big, green AIBO robot dog. In the many close-up shots, Pleo happily blinks and bats his big blue eyes for the video camera. According to the videographer's video notes, Pleo was low on battery which forced them to limit their playtime with him to only 15 minutes.
